It may sound odd at first that a gay ski week is taking place in the middle of August. But think of the southern hemisphere and the seasons are inverted. “Frosty Fruits” on the Australian Mount Hotham is the name for the gay ski week here. A geographical location of 36 degrees south latitude, a summit of 1861 metres and record-breaking snowfall rates of up to 140 centimetres per month make this possible. Mount Hotham is also home to Mary’s Slide, the most difficult descent in Down Under. Non-skiers are also welcome as “watchmen”.
