The June WorldPride program is becoming clear. The official closing event will take place on 30 June in New York‘s Times Square in between 19h00 and 22h00. One of the show acts will be Grammy winner Melissa Etheridge. The rally takes place at the end of the Pride March in Manhattan. PrideFest in West Village with its several stalls for information and entertainment is also scheduled for 30 June.
The route itself will deviate from the traditional route due to the expected number of participants and friends – the organisers expect up to 3 million. The start of the parade is scheduled at 12h00, on the corner of 5th Avenue and 26th Street. The march will follow 5th Avenue south, pass Christopher Street and Stonewall bar before heading north again along 7th Avenue past the New York City AIDS Memorial and terminating at 23rd Street.
Pride Island with Grace Jones
The first show acts on the two-day Pride Island Festival on 29 and 30 June were also confirmed. The legendary Grace Jones will be the major act at the show on Saturday. Rapper Teyana Taylor, Brazilian drag queen Pablo Vittar and Afro-Latin American pop singer Amara La Negra will also perfom. The line-up for Sunday will be announced at a later date.
