Section 164 of Botswana\u2019s laws prohibited oral and anal sex for homo- and heterosexual couples.\u00a0 It deemed those practices to be \u201ccarnal knowledge against the order of nature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Michael Leburu explained: \u201cHuman dignity is harmed when minority groups are marginalised\u201d. This is a significant step towards equality on the African continent since homosexuality is still illegal in more than two dozen African states.
