{"id":16161,"date":"2020-11-13T11:24:50","date_gmt":"2020-11-13T11:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spartacus.gayguide.travel\/blog\/?p=16161"},"modified":"2020-12-16T14:19:54","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T14:19:54","slug":"is-there-a-pride-ban-coming-in-poland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spartacus.gayguide.travel\/blog\/is-there-a-pride-ban-coming-in-poland\/","title":{"rendered":"Will there a ban on Pride in Poland?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Polish Sejm has to deal with a homophobic bill that is tantamount to a defacto-ban on the queer movement.<\/p>\n<p>On November 9, a citizens&#8217; initiative led by pro-life activist Kaja Godek submitted a bill called &#8220;Stop LGBT&#8221; to the Sejm &#8211; a motion to ban any gatherings that &#8220;question marriage as a union of a man and a woman&#8221; or &#8220;promote same-sex relationships&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want a ban on Pride meetings because they violate the constitutional order&#8221;,<\/p>\n<p>said Krzysztof Kasprzak of the initiative \u017bycie i Rodzina (&#8220;Life and Family&#8221;), in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he himself had seen how Pride events had tried to undermine the constitutional order defined in Article 18, which refers to marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Specifically, the draft provides for a ban on all gatherings or demonstrations aimed at any of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Questioning marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman,<\/li>\n<li>Promoting the extension of marriage to persons of the same sex,<\/li>\n<li>Promoting same-sex relationships or relationships of more than two people,<\/li>\n<li>Promoting the privileged treatment of same-sex partnerships or partnerships involving more than two people,<\/li>\n<li>Promotion of legal solutions to privilege same-sex marriages,<\/li>\n<li>Promoting the possibility of adoption of children by persons of the same sex,<\/li>\n<li>Promotion of sexual orientations other than heterosexuality,<\/li>\n<li>Promotion of gender as a unit independent of biological conditions,<\/li>\n<li>Promotion of sexual activity of children and young people before the age of 18.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"#Salon: Action for Poland Now!\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Mv2CxL4iy8w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The term &#8220;promotion&#8221; in the draft law includes<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;any form of publication, dissemination, agitation, lobbying, assertions, expectations, requests, proposals, recommendations or advertising.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It would thus extend to the entire field of public life. This would be tantamount to banning the queer movement, Anna B\u0142aszczak-Banasiak from the office of the Ombudsman Adam Bodnar told OKO.press, and would be a gross violation of the Polish constitution.<\/p>\n<h2>Catholic Church involved<\/h2>\n<p>In order for the Sejm to deal with such an application, at least 100,000 signatures are required. The &#8220;Stop LGBT&#8221; initiative has submitted over 200,000 signatures &#8211; collected with the support of the Roman Catholic Church, which has always been actively involved in Kaja Godek&#8217;s projects. Should the legislative process succeed, this would be a criminal offence.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>They are all marked on a map &#8211; the &#8220;Atlas of Hatred&#8221;, which opponents of the &#8220;Stop LGBT&#8221; campaign have created &#8211; which shows that there are over 300 communities. Municipalities that received EU subsidies between 2014 and 2020 are marked in blue.<\/p>\n<p>But by no means the entire clergy supports the homophobic campaign. The chairman of the Polish Bishops&#8217; Conference, Archbishop Stanis\u0142aw G\u0105decki, opposed the homophobic initiative.
