Since October, they have been the proud parents of a chick that hatched in the sub-Antarctic zone of the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium.<\/p>\n<p>This was the second time the couple had adopted and hatched an egg from a heterosexual couple. The babies hatched last month in the penguin enclosure at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. &#8220;We are delighted to welcome the new penguin chicks to our colony,&#8221; said Kerri Dixon, Penguin Supervisor at SEA LIFE Aquarium. &#8220;They are doing really well and are gaining weight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"New Gentoo Penguin Chicks at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-suYqkpa7r8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The two Gentoo Penguins made history in 2018 as the Aquarium&#8217;s first gay penguin couple to successfully incubate and raise a chick &#8211; a girl named Sphengic.<\/p>\n<p>Baby Sphengic is now called Lara and is an incredibly curious penguin. &#8220;Lara is now two years old and surprises us every day anew with how independent she is,&#8221; said an aquarium spokeswoman.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sphengic is all grown up! | SEA LIFE Sydney\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E4FV2lwPCoY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Sphen and Magic soon grandparents?<\/h2>\n<p>As the youngest member of the colony, Lara even tried to build her own nest and incubate eggs during this breeding season. &#8220;Although she is still relatively young, she tried to participate in this year&#8217;s incubation season.
