Also German former national soccer star Thomas Hitzlsperger can hardly wait for about 5,000 athletes to compete in Sweden&#8217;s capital from August 5th to 8th. &#8220;For me, being able to play sports without being a target of sexism, homophobia and racism is a human right,&#8221; said Hitzlsperger according to a publication of the EuroGames, when introducing the gay football star as its ambassador today. In addition to Hitzlsperger, lesbian Swedish footballer Nilla Fischer, who plays for VfL Wolfsburg, and heterosexual Swedish national handball player Tobias Karlsson, who works for Champions League winner SG Flensburg-Handewitt, are also involved in the EuroGames. The EuroGames take place about three times per decade. They last one took place in Budapest in 2014, and Helsinki will be hosting it in 2016.
