The sexiest man alive (voted 1997 and 2006) calls for the boycott of various luxury Hotels in Europe and the US. The reason: shares of these hotels belong to Hassanal Bolkiah, the head of the Sultanate of Brunei. He recently introduced the death penalty by stoning for homosexuals in his country. In 2014, after Brunei introduced the Sharia law, stars (including talk show master Ellen DeGeneres) boycotted the hotels of the Dorchester Collection. George Clooney now names the hotels again and clarifies: If you stay there, Hassanal Bolkiah might get even richer. And so, in consequence, you co-finance the murder of innocent people. The employees of these hotels are not to be blamed. But banks and investors could be hit where it hurts them most: profit.
Clooney hopes that the boycott can eventually rid the Sultan of his business relationships. His call for boycott was propagated by pop star Elton John, among others.
