It took a while for Germany’s largest airline to catch up with its Asian competitors and its own subsidiary SWISS in terms of comfort in Business Class. Since early summer 2012, the new Business Class seats have been installed in the brand new Boeing 747-8 and the first A330 planes. The most important innovation: the new seat can be converted into a 1.98-metre-long bed at the touch of a button, thus guaranteeing the highest level of (f)lying comfort.
The upholstery is ergonomically improved, retractable armrests, larger storage areas and additional storage compartments at seat complete the improved features. The individual screen at 15 ichens is about a third larger than before. The Boeing 747-8 has a V-shaped seat layout. This guarantees more free space around your head and shoulders, but also means that the feet of seat neighbours come closer. The new Business Class has been installed on more aircraft since autumn last year and the conversion on the entire long-haul fleet is to be completed within four years.
Lufthansa has also upgraded its Business Class cabin service. In addition to the supply of large, long-stemmed wine glasses, sauces are now being served in separate gravy boats. Pepper is sprinkled freshly from a mill. Orange juice for breakfast is freshly squeezed and on day flights a water bottle is again provided at seat. On routes to and from North and South America, the second service follows the new concept “Soup & Salad”.
