At the end of 2017, the publishing company Bruno Gmünder Verlag filed for bankruptcy and sold its gay media and the Bruno’s – stores. The Spartacus International Gay Guide, which has been published there since 1987, was one of the publishing house’s flagship publications. Effective January 1st, 2018, the travel guides new owner will be GayGuide UG.
The development of an entirely new app is planned including the extension and further development of the website with worldwide and pride calendars respectively.
Spartacus is one of the oldest and best known brands of the LGBT travel community. The travel guide was first published in 1970 in print. It enabled homosexuals since then to travel safely and provided them with background information, inside news, a country index and information on the most important gay locations. It was the direct guide to clubs and saunas as well as to the best and most gay-friendly hotels and restaurants.
In future, Spartacus will no longer be available in print, but will serve as a digital travel companion for every gay tourist – adapted to his individual needs.
