Osaka has the second largest gay scene in Japan. Visitors can orientate themselves with the help of the magazine "Kansai Scene", which sometimes lists gay or gay-friendly establishments. Gay areas are located in Doyama-Cho and Kamiyama-Cho (not far from JR Osaka and Hankyu Umeda stations). This area is often referred to as Kita (north area). Nanba and Shinsekai are referred to as Minami (south area). The largest area is Kita with and is the most welcoming to gay foreigners. Gay events or nights are sometimes held at famous straight clubs as well. The local gay bookshops often have fliers about events.
