Homosexuality is not illegal in the Philippines. The age of consent is 18 years. However, Philippine legislation prohibits indecent behaviour, no matter what sex or gender the offenders are. There are several LGBT organisations in the Philippines, and gay life is generally lived quite openly although the majority of the population is Roman Catholic. A registered civil partnership or even gay marriage do not yet exist. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte spoke out in favour of opening marriage at the end of 2017 all the same. The first Pride took place in 1994 in the capital Manila - and since then every year, with growing numbers of participants and visitors. Manila is also home to a lot of of gay nightlife comprising bars, clubs, saunas and massage parlours. So there are even more reasons to visit this country consisting of over 7000 islands - along with wonderful beaches, fantastic landscapes, friendly people and delicious food.
