Aruba is an autonomous territory of the Netherlands with special status. Gay men lead a relatively untroubled and safe life here. The age of consent is 16 and sex between men is legal. According to the Dutch government Aruba belongs to the Dutch kingdom must recognize same-sex marriages against which, however, the local government in Aruba is fighting as well as against a court decision in favour of the Dutch government.
