Gay Guide Greece
In December 2015, Greece adopted far-reaching reforms concerning the rights of gays and lesbians. The age of consent for both heterosexuals and homosexuals is now 15. A registered registered partnership is now possible - but without adoption rights or a shared surname. Section 347 of the Code prohibiting perverse relation between men has now been formally abolished. The Greeks are a warm-hearted and hospitable people. The attitude to homosexuality depends strongly on the generation: Younger people usually deal with it in a very relaxed and open-minded way. There is also a difference between life in the cities and in the countryside. Athens (especially in the Gazi quarter) and Thessaloniki are home to large LGBT communities - in both cities an annual Pride takes place, but also in Greece's third largest city Patras. The gay life of the islands is mostly concentrated on Mykonos, especially if you are interested in fun, well-frequented beaches and hot nights. But also the islands Santorini, Lesbos, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu and Kos, which have recently become more and more popular amongst gay tourists, have beautiful beaches for various leisure activities. And although the gay scene on the mainland is generally more conservative, there are also cruising areas and beaches for gay lovers of the Mediterranean countryside.
