Gay Guide Belize
There is no mention of an age of consent for men, but for women the age of consent is 16 years. Until 2016, homosexual acts were illegal, but the law was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Although there are few cases of apparent violence against gays, the community has been clandestine for many years. In 2017, however, the first Pride Week was held in the small Central American state, and LGBT generally became more visible after the change in the law. This also meant an additional boom in LGBT tourism: many resorts organise LGBT events and in San Pedro Town a gay nightlife with many bars and establishments has developed in recent years.
