Gay Guide Caribbean - Virgin Islands of the USA
The age of consent was raised to 18 in 2018. In 2014 a bill was submitted by a deputy to introduce gay marriage. Immediately there were massive protests from religious circles. After the Supreme Court ruling in 2015, Governor Kenneth Mapp declared that homosexual marriage would be considered a human right on the islands (an unincorporated outer territory of the USA) and thus be permitted. The Virgin Islands are located in the immediate vicinity of Puerto Rico. The average tourist visits these islands mainly as a stop on a cruise in the Carribean to shop duty free. On St. Thomas and in Fredriksted on St. Croix there are gay hotels and basic gay infrastructure. But the biggest attractions are the tropical climate and the beautiful beaches.
