Gay Guide Honduras
The law allows consensual homosexual acts between men above the age of 15, but since 2005 the constitution has clearly prohibited same-sex marriage and adoption. And there are always brutal attacks on transvestites. There are no attempts to introduce anti-discrimination regulations; police and military raids are on the agenda. This negative situation has prevailed since the onset of AIDS. According to a 2017 survey, 75% of respondents were against marriage for all. There are three organisations fighting for the rights of homosexuals: Violet Collective, Gay Community and the Gay-and-Lesbian Group of Honduras. There is a small LGBT community in the capital Tegucigalpa. San Pedro Sula is considered one of the most dangerous cities in the world because of drug-related crime - but it was here that a Pride Parade with 400 participants took place in 2017. Around the islands off the mainland is the second largest coral reef in the world - after the Great Barrier Reef. Honduras is also home to numerous animal species and has the largest coherent patch of virgin rainforest in Central America.
