Gay Guide Peru

Homosexual acts among consenting adults are legal. Although, marriage and other legal rights are still not part of Peru's constitution. Recently, movements like "Imaginary Couples" lead by an openly gay journalist and a group of well known people in Peru have started a campaign for gay and lesbian rights under the phrase, "Love is not a crime" (www.amarnoesundelito.pe). Gay and Lesbian couples acceptance in their families is still tentative and based on no overt demonstrations. Homosexuality can be used in the legal system as grounds for separation and/or divorce. Lima, the capital, and Peru in general are starting to move forward with LGBT rights, but lag behind the USA and European countries.
