The federal law against "Propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" came into force on the 30th June 2013. The law also applies to foreigners caught spreading information, partaking in public demonstrations and supporting homosexuality with fines of up to 100,000 Rubles (around 2,300 Euros), up to 15 days in prison and expulsion from the Russian Federation. Recent incidents have taken place with violence by private individuals, in which attacks on homosexuals and same-sex couples have been reported. For more violent attacks, in particular for public show mutual affection cannot be excluded.
