Gay Guide Russia
The sauna culture in Russia came from Finland many years ago and is still appreciated as an important form of relaxation. The gay sauna scene in Russia is somewhat limited as gay life is generally hidden. The saunas are often difficult to find. There are a few saunas in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Bring your own condoms and lube when visiting saunas in Russia. The acceptance same-sex partnerships in Russian society is very limited. The federal law against "Propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" came into force on the 30th June 2013. The law also applies to foreigners caught spreading information, partaking in public demonstrations and supporting homosexuality with fines of up to 100,000 Rubles (around 2,300 Euros), up to 15 days in prison and expulsion from the Russian Federation. Recent incidents have taken place with violence by private individuals, in which attacks on homosexuals and same-sex couples have been reported.
