Gay Guide Phuket
The largest island in Thailand, around the size of Singapore, is linked by two bridges to the mainland and lies to the south of Myanmar on the isthmus, which runs westward towards Malaysia. Phuket has around 250,000 inhabitants, who mostly live in Phuket Town, which it is an important business centre and the provincial capital. The large, hilly island offers wonderful beaches, and is surrounded by numerous tiny islands just offshore. As a result, Phuket is an ideal starting point to visit the beautiful islands of Surin and Similan, which are both national parks. The main centre for gay tourists is Patong Beach, around 13km from Phuket Town. Phuket's multifaceted and charming gay scene is firmly established in Patong Beach. The beautiful setting and numerous leisure activities, go to make it a perfect year round destination for gay travellers. It's not just the many outdoor beer bars and restaurants so typical of Patong, or the developing Phuket style of nightlife, which makes the place so interesting. The hard sell of Bangkok and Pattaya makes the friendliness of Thais on Phuket come as a relief and will make a holiday here unforgettable.
