Johannesburg (Jozi, Jo'burg or eGoli) is the largest city in South Africa. The population (including Ekhuruleni, West Rand, Soweto and Lenasia exceeds 10 million people. Greater Johannesburg consists of over 500 suburbs covering an area of more than 1 645 km² (635 sq mi) and is the provincial capital of Gauteng. Jo'burg has the strongest economy of any metropolitan region in Sub-Saharan Africa. The city is one of the 40 largest metropolitan areas in the world and it is one of the six global cities of Africa. Johannesburg houses the Constitutional Court, is the source of a large-scale gold and diamond trade and the International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Africa. Jo'burg has no distinctly gay area and venues are scattered from downtown, into the suburbs in and around Jozi. Public cruising had become extremely dangerous and were largely replaced by safe cruising venues and the internet. Travel with locals if possible and do not display yourself as being a tourist or openly expose your wealth.
