Saunas are more commonly known as "bath houses" in North America. Often the bath houses in the USA don't meet European standards and generally the sauna culture is not prevalent in the USA. The saunas in New York for example don't mirror to the fame of the city with its diversity. Same in San Francisco, where bath houses are still officially closed, replaced by "sex clubs" with no private rooms, just curtains. This doesn't mean you won't find what you're looking for!
