Rio is one of the most exciting cities in the world. The fantastic beaches and mountains provide a perfect setting - the city is aptly named "The Wonderful City". With over 6 million people, Rio is big by any standards. It's also very cosmopolitan, with a rich cultural life and history. Gay attractions are mostly concentrated in the beach neighbourhoods of Copacabana and Ipanema, making the city very easy to master. Copacabana is where most hotels are concentrated. You will also find here nightclubs, bars, baths and more. Ipanema is a smaller and more sophisticated version, with world-class shopping, restaurants and cafes. Sunday at the gay beach in Ipanema is a must! Carnival is Rio's main event, with almost a week of non-stop partying. New Year's Eve in Copacabana is also very big. A good safety tip is never taking strangers back to your hotel room - go to one of the many sex hotels instead.
