The Covid-19 measures in Great Britain have been further intensified. In London, warning level two has been reached, which means that all private contact between strangers is prohibited. Also an overnight stay with mere acquaintances.

While Germans still get angry about a mask on their faces and a ban on accommodation, the British have it easier: here, more stringent contact bans have been issued upon reaching the so-called second warning level.

Has Great Britain banned one-night stands?

Yes and no. What could be marketed as a headline in the excited Coronavirus news competition is in reality a lockdown of private life. Precisely

“…not to meet people from different households indoors. No matter whether in a private apartment or in a public place.”

What sounds like a dating ban is actually a total ban on contact. For safety’s sake, however, sexual and interpersonal intercourse between partners has been unequivocally emphasised in the new regulation. So

“spontaneous and unplanned overnight stay in a strange apartment”

is forbidden. And no, it is not enough to point out that one had made a date three hours ago, it goes on. People who are in the “early stages of a relationship” should therefore observe the precautions for “social distancing”:

“If you intend to have close contact with someone, you should consider how you can prevent risks of transmission as a couple. E.g., by avoiding close contact with people with whom you do not live together.”

Couples with two apartments who live in a stable relationship are excluded from the new regulation. It does not matter whether they are of the opposite or same sex.
