Arosa

Longer, bigger and, more colourful. The 1.7-kilometre-long cable car between Hörnli and Urdenfürggli will open one month before gays from all over the world will flock to the Gay Skiweek in Arosa, an alpine village in the high mountains of Grisons. The new cable-car links the previously separate ski areas of Arosa and Lenzerheide. Now winter sports enthusiasts have a total area of 225 km of pistes at their disposal, where there were previously only 100 km (Arosa) and 125 km (Lenzerheide). This is an expansion on a large scale and is symbolic of bringing separate things together which could also be the motto of the gay ski week. Bridges are also being built here (between mainstream and gay tourism). Since its debut in 2003 (then still known as “Snow & Motion Week”) it has been growing steadily. For its tenth anniversary, the organisers are expecting 350 guests from 30 nations. That makes 1.5 homosexuals per kilometre of slope. One can vividly imagine what is going to happen once the final gondola for the day has arrived. Especially as the event experts from the Circuit-Festival Barcelona provide the right party vibes. Let’s ski!
