Bangkok

In 2017, after an eleven years’pause, a Pride will be held in Bangkok again. But the date has been postponed to autumn.

There is usually no shortage of opportunities to party in Thailand’s capital: between the big circuit event White Party Bangkok on New Year’s Eve and the Thai New Year’s Festival Song Kran, the bars and clubs around Silom Street provide plenty of options. But there hasn’t been a Pride in Bangkok for eleven years. That is to change this year. A number of local organisers, including Out BKK, QueerMango and the HIV Foundation Asia, want to get another Pride up and running in 2017.

However, the date initially planned for May has been postponed. Reason being the mourning period for King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died last year in early autumn, is still to be observed as the organisers have explained on Facebook. They have not yet provided a new date, but are apparently planning the Pride events for the months of November or December.

In addition to parties and a large Pride parade, the organisers have also announced workshops, film festivals and other events.
