The writer and activist had founded the organisations Gay Men’s Health Crisis and ACT UP during the AIDS crisis. With his aggressive style of argumentation, he represented the gay community at a time when the government under Ronald Reagan let them down. He died of pneumonia on Wednesday.

The leader of Russia’s constituent republic of Chechnya is said to have fallen ill with corona. According to the media, he was flown to a Moscow hospital with lung damage on Thursday. Kadyrov is responsible for the massive persecution of gays in the country, which became internationally known in 2017 and has since been severely condemned.

However, the Spanish doctor Francisco José Alvarado (30) scored another victory: He not only fought COVID-19 for his patients, but he himself got infected – and was able to overcome the disease.
