    Belgium: Trans* politician appointed Deputy Prime Minister

    It has taken 493 days for Belgium’s government to stand. The Vivaldi coalition, named after Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons”, is made up of seven parties: the Social Democrats, Liberals and Greens from both parts of the country (Wallonia and Flanders) and the Flemish Christian Democrats. The four colours of the coalition parties – blue (Liberals), green (Greens), red (Socialists) and orange (Christian Democrats) – each symbolise a season.

    Russia plans to arrest gay fathers

    The accusation is: child trafficking. According to reports, state investigators plan not only to deprive single fathers of their children, but also to arrest the men who became fathers through in vitro fertilisation and surrogate motherhood. Queer organisations speak of homophobia as a motive, the deputy head of the Committee for Family, Women and Children’s Issues calls the plan a blatant violation of the law.

    France: Trans*woman remains the legal “father” of the biological child

    France’s Supreme Court has ruled that a transgender woman is not recognised as the natural mother of the child she conceived before the completion of her transition (“gender reassignment measures”) but after official registration as a woman. The 51-year-old had to adopt the child in order to become its legal mother.

    In an open letter, 50 diplomats from countries all over the world criticised the Polish government and the current situation of the queer community in Germany’s neighbouring country.     Almost two out of three queer Iranians* experience violence within their families

    These are incredible figures: More than four out of ten queer Iranians*, almost half of all respondents, have already been victims of sexual violence or even rape – mostly from their own families. This is the result of research by the leading Iranian queer organisation 6Rang, which shows how widespread violence against queer people is in the Middle Eastern country.
