Ever since the first presidential debate, everyone has been talking about the Proud Boys, a US neo-Nazi group, thanks to Trump. The queer community did not want to offer racism a platform – and flooded the hashtag with real proud boys, kisses, bright colours and lots of love.

 

 

The idea gained wide coverage thanks to the popularity of Star Trek legend George Takei, who has never missed an opportunity to annoy Trump. After his presidential debate with challenger Joe Biden, the extreme right-wing Proud Boys, a racist “White Supremacist” group, were on everyone’s lips. This attention – difficult for Takei to bear.

 

Racism: Donald Trump loses important voters

Donald Trump had refused to distance himself from the racist group on the debate stage. He only expressed the much criticised request “Stay back and stand by”. The group celebrated his comment, which was interpreted as an “march order”, incorporated the quote into their logo within an hour and began selling merchandise with it. Two of the largest internet warehouses have since blocked these items.

Trump may regret his comment now: In the “Swing State” Florida, a fiercely contested state between the two rivals, his comment might have cost him important votes from the black community, according to initial polls.

 

Twitter: Gay love instead of racism

 

The community and its allies loved Takei’s idea – and delivered!
