It is a weekend of superlatives. With over 140,000 visitors, the Gay Days in Florida are one of the biggest gay events in the USA and a role model for every gay theme park day. Party boys and Disney fans can enjoy attractions like roller coasters, 3D shows, spaceship simulations and short musicals like “Finding Nemo”. For four days, gays and lesbians move from theme park to theme park and let off. Their distinguishing marks are red T-shirts, which are worn with pride. The highlight of the “Tour de Disney” is Saturday at the Magic Kingdom, the most classic of all theme parks with Cinderella’s fairytale castle as the omnipresent landmark. Thousands of gays and lesbians gather here at 3 pm to cheer for their heroes Mickey Mouse, Peter Pan, Aladin or the Seven Dwarfs during the parade.

One hour before the spectacle, particularly committed lesbians are preparing the audience for it with La Ola waves and battle cries. For many of the visitors, the Gay Days, taking place for the 20th time in 2011, are a fixed ritual. During the Gay Days, a part of the festival “borrows” nephews, nieces or godchildren in order to enjoy this rather unusual day with them. And one likes to adapt oneself to the hetero-families with their fat children in order to enjoy the day with other gays and lesbians anyway. Of course, there is no official support from Disney for the Gay Days. As part of the company’s policy, everyone is equally welcome every day of the year and all 365 days of the year are identical.

After all, Disney does not have a veterans’, vegetarians’ or pensioners’ day either, according to the company spokespersons’ logic. But there is a big concession of the huge entertainment company: When the gates of the Disney studios close for the families on Saturday evening, one of the most spectacular gay open-air parties of the year startss on these grounds. While some of the gay-day-goers are looking to visit the parks and attractions during the day, the gay party jet set celebrates at night at the circuit parties. Daily pool parties in the host hotel, where US porn stars like Matthew Rush or Vinnie Dangelo are always on display, are standard. The party weekend begins with a beach party at Disney Water Park “Typhoon Lagoon” – Dresscode: Swim trunks.

The party in the Disney or Universal studios will feature international stars such as Donna Summer and DJ greats such as Joe Gauthreaux and Eddie Baez. Attractions like the “Tower of Terror” and the “Rocking Roller Coaster” remain open until 2 am until the party ends with a gigantic fireworks display. If you still feel like dancing, visit the afterparty. Due to legal regulations it is alcohol-free. If you can’t do much with stereotypical US muscle guys, you’ll find enough alternatives during the gay days.

In “Parliament House”, one of the biggest gay resorts in Florida, there are theme parties at night with shows and lots of guys who can’t afford or don’t want the expensive parties with entrance fees up to 95 dollars. And also in the Royal Plaza Hotel, where a gay mass, a small film festival and daily pool parties take place during the Gaydays, there is a comedy show in the evening.
