In March, when the spring sun drives away winter fatigue, gay events are crowding the diary again. From big parties to film festivals and from gay pride to bear carnival, we present you with tips on six events for a perfect start into spring.

Winter Party Festival

Maiami. U.S.A.
March 1st to 7th, 2017

Forget everything you have associated with a traditional winter party until now. Instead of muddy outdoors in March Miami offers you rooftop pools, the sea and bars under palm trees. There are no snow-capped mountains here, but the sand on the beaches is impeccably white. And thanks to the sudatory basses of international top DJs, the Miami Winter Party is a week full of scantily dressed men’s bodies. So pump your body with vitamin D, slip into your most textile-free party outfit and give winter fatigue no chance.

Melbourne Queer Film Festival

March 16th to 27th, 2017

Anyone who thinks that the two-week Melbourne Queer Film Festival would always follow the same motto, only varied by different actors and locations, is mistaken. For as diverse as the schemes of life within the LGBTI community are, so is the mix of genres that are brought to the screens by new and established talents: from gay to trans*, from coming of age to comedy. Still got the wrong ticket? It’s no big deal, because we still know from our school days: It never gets boring in the cinema in good company.

GaySail

Saint-Martin, Caribbean
March 18th to 25th, 2017

Gay cruises don’t always have to be on giant vessels. The small provider GaySail has been organising small, almost intimate gay sailing tours for 27 years, now. As an option even a nudist cruise. Up to three sailboats with gay captain, gay cook and between 10 and 14 passengers each plough through the azure blue water of the Caribbean. It starts in mid-March in the French overseas département of Saint-Martin. The route leads to Saint Barthélemy and Anguilla. The last-minute offers start at 995 Euros. Saint Martin can easily be reached by air  flying Air France or KLM via Paris or Amsterdam.

Bear Carnival

Gran Canaria, Spain
March, 19th until 27th, 2017

The family-friendly holiday island of Gran Canaria is also home to wild bears – and they meet for Bear Carnival on the gay beach of Maspalomas every March. In view of the high density of “men only” parties and leisure facilities, it is hardly surprising that the majority of the festival programme revolves around cruising and nights of dancing. Fortunately, the absolutely twink-free program also leaves room for relaxed spa visits and some funny show evenings.

Tampa Pride

March 25th, 2017

Make America Queer Again! The US Pride season opens in March, making the Pride in Tampa, Florida’s third largest city, one of the first to address the situation of LGBTIs in the US under President Trump. The Tampa Pride is comparatively young: first launched in 2015 it has been growing rapidly since then. Guaranteed: In March the sun is still gentle so that those joining the Pride to demonstrate for equality and diversity can do so without getting exhausted quickly.

Gay Surf Camp

Santa Catarina, Brasilia
March 25th until April 1st, 2017

The perfect wave can be found at Praia do Rosa, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. All you need to surf them is the right opportunity. And that will present itself in March when the Gay Surf Camp brings together water-loving gays and lesbians from all over the world. Five days on the beach and in the water with the experienced surf coach Capitão David and two nights in Brazil’s homo capital Florianópolis are on the agenda. The total is $1434 for the whole week in a double room, transport to and fro is not included and to be taken care of individually.
