Along the long Atlantic coast of Portugal (and especially in the Algarve), many areas have small, secluded nudist beaches where you can also find gay and bisexual men. You just have to try your luck!
We have listed the largest beaches with the highest success rate for you.

1. Beach 19 / Praia de Bela Vista

This beach is one of Portugal’s most popular gay beaches and one of the largest nudist beaches in Europe. The beach is located just south of Portugal’s capital Lisbon, right at the southern end of the Costa da Caparica. You can reach it by car as well as by public transport. The beach leaves nothing to be desired: There is a lot to see. You can be nude, but you may also wear clothes. Nearby kiosks provide shade, drinks, food and WiFi.
From the late afternoon onwards, more and more people give themselves over to cruising. For those who don’t want to do that, there’s sunbathing, relaxing and swimming in the sea. There are plenty of opportunities to secure space. Moreover, nature is stunning – Beach 19 is part of a nature reserve.

2. Praia do Meco

40 kilometres south of Lisbon lies the nudist beach Praia do Meco. It was one of the first nudist beaches in Portugal and has been very popular with nudists since the 1970s. The surroundings are wooded and very beautiful. The bay is also popular with surfers. Although the visitors are not exclusively gay, but mixed, the beach is considered gay-friendly.

3. Praia da Manta Rota

The beach is considered the best nudist beach in the Eastern Algarve. The public is mixed, but because the Algarve is so popular with queer travellers, there are many gays here. Manta Rota is a huge beach, the nudist section is in the west, towards the gulf of Cacela Velha. In this corner the beach resembles a peninsula, surrounded by warm water.

4. Praia do Salto

This small, official nudist beach is located near Porto Covo, south of Lisbon, about two hours’ drive away. The beach is a bit hidden and you have to climb down a steep path – but it’s worth it. Coming from the town of Porto Covo, there is a car park in a bend. From there the path leads to Praia do Salto, a quiet, secluded nudist beach where many gays also feel free to make acquaintances and relax.

5. Praia Grande de Pêra

One of the most famous gay beaches in the Algarve. The name says it all: Praia Grande is big. The sandy plain is long and wide, up to two kilometres of unspoilt landscape can be found here. Everyone finds a quiet place. It is a rather quiet and little visited beach, so it is very popular with nudists. On the east side by the rock formations you will find the gay area, clothing optional. Cruising takes place in the dunes.
Praia Grande is located near Albufeira, so the distance to the airport is also short.

6. Praia do Barril

Praia do Barril is a large beach that is quite isolated. The beach is located in the south of Portugal, near the Spanish border. Yellow sandy beach and turquoise waters are as inviting to visit as the remoteness and size of the beach. Here everyone finds a place where he can relax alone. There is an area near the dunes where you can meet likeminded people.
