I LIKE MY CITY BECAUSE …
it borders the Mediterranean, is very international and the mountains are not far away. Ideal for hiking.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
June! It’s not too hot, but you can go to the beach already. By August, the Mediterranean will have warmed up more and more and it gets unpleasant in the city if you do not have air conditioning. At the end of June, there is the Sonar Festival with electronic progressive music and multimedia art. For me the best event of the year. www.sonar.es
It’s more a snack: “Que Bo” – means “How tasty”. In Spain, most sandwiches and baguettes contain only meat but no vegetables. In “Que Bo” (Carrer de la Fusteria 14) there are many different vegetables and sauces available – ten or twelve – and it is really yummy!
“La Bata de Boatine” (Robardor 18) in the Raval district. One of the most beautiful bars in the area.
At the moment, the Sunday Tea Dance in the “Lokotron” (Almogavers 86). But only starts around 20h00. Not designated gay event, but very gay-friendly!
El Cangrejo Rojo (Villarroel 86). Niche lounge music and very relaxed. Great place for chatting, laughing, drinking and meeting men (just like Blanche).
NOT TO MISS
The church Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudí. You should also visit Montjuïc and the village of “Poble Espanyol”, built for the 1929 World Exhibition. In one of the towers there is a club.
MY FAVOURITE PLACE
In summer these are the Chiringuitos, the beach bars near Marbella. There is one designated for gays. There is music, there is no admission and the prices are moderate. Ideal for chilling, drinking, bathing and dancing in the evening. Typically Barcelona.
The pride season is here! With the Belgian Pride in Brussels, the first European capital celebrated the first LGBT-Pride this year.
It is a landmark decision: Taiwan becomes the first country in Asia to pass gay marriage legislation.
And the winner is… Janjep Carlos from the Philippines! In a ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa, Janjep Carlos was named Mr Gay World 2019.
Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, stated that his country does not intend to execute the death penalty for homosexuals. The statement was translated into English – an unusual procedure in Brunei. Does this indicate that Bolkiah‘s announcement is in answer to worldwide protests?
US preacher Steven Anderson is considered a denier of Holocaust, anti-LGBT extremist and Islamophobe. He plans a European tour in May 2019.Dutch security minister Mark Harbers states that measures have been taken to prevent Anderson from entering the Netherlands
Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro underlines his position as a homophobe once again. During a breakfast meeting with press representatives he declared he doesn’t want Brazil to become a paradise for gay tourists. Sex tourism – no problem for Bolsonaro as long as the tourists are heterosexual. Bolsanaro’s justification: “We have families”.
