Madrid

Madrid was awarded the Master Award for Tolerance and Diversity for the video “40 Years of Madrid Pride” at this year’s international film and print multimedia festival “The Golden City Gate” at ITB, Berlin’s toursim fair.

The festival’s president Wolfgang Huschert outlines the importance of this annual award as it is meant to encourage the tourism industry to show tolerance and diversity in their promotional films, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation.
The prestigious award has been launched in 2014. The first winner was DSDS super star Prince Damien who received the award for his music video “Easy Breezy”. Conchita Wurst won the award in 2016 for the film “MYPERFECTDAY in Vienna”, Harald Glööckler was 2017’s winner.

At a time when various tourist destinations such as Russia, Uganda or Tanzania are drastically tightening their legislation against homosexuals, the Master Award is a courageous and important symbol of tolerance and diversity, especially in the context of ITB 2019.
More than 150 films from all over the world were listed for this year’s 19th international tourism film and print multimedia festival “The Golden City Gate”.

“40 years of Madrid Pride” compiles short stories of gays, lesbians and transgender people of different origins, skin colour – sometimes with, sometimes without disability – across all age groups. It is a very positive example of how a city can demonstrate that the LGBTIQ* community is welcome.
