Summer, sun and dancing until dawn: gay cruises are in trend and it is difficult which one to choose. The are four descibed below you should certainly consider this year. Feel like it? We are giving away five copies of the book “Gebrauchsanweisung für Kreuzfahrten” (how to go on a cruise) by Thomas Blubacher.
The Cruise
Party non-stop on the waves of the Atlantic
September 18th until 25th, 2015 from Lisbon to Gran Canaria
Hard to believe, but the Brussels-based party series La Demence is the inspiration for The Cruise for the seventh time – and promises a real La Demence, only lasting longer, in better weather and with even more diverse guests. Guests from 83 countries were on board last year, ranging in age from 18 to 80 years. “This mixture shows that everyone on board feels comfortable with us, that a kind of big family feeling is emerging,” the organisers have stated. This year, The cruise-family can grow to up to 2,200 members – that’s how many guests the ship, the “Monarch”, can accommodate. Extensively renovated in 2013, the luxury liner has two pools, a 360-degree panorama bar and a well-equipped gym. Even if the ship is often enough converted into a dance club, it offers enough space to relax due to its size. And before you start dancing again, you can stand by the railing and admire the Canary Islands where the “Monarch” passes. La Demence fans should not miss this year’s trip, which takes place in September instead of the usual spring trip.
Rainbow Cruise
Spring in the western Mediterranean
April 29th until May 7th, 2017, from Palma de Majorca to Valletta
The world’s second largest cruise company, TUI Cruises, is making its “Mein Schiff 2” available for a gay cruise for the first time this year. During the Rainbow Cruise the nearly two thousand guests can expect not only a sophisticated party program with DJs and acts like Conchita, WestBam and Tim Fischer. Comedian Kay Ray, entertainer Sven Ratzke, travesty icon Elke Winter and many other artists will also be on board and provide varied entertainment. During their stay in Barcelona, DJs from the Catalan capital and Cologne, together with a dozen go-go dancers, will make the pool deck the hottest club in town – exclusively for cruise guests. And a few days later,in the Gulf of Naples the Berlin party series Revolver takes over on board, providing hot beats in a volcanic scenery. On the days inbetween it is best to relax in the large spa area of “Mein Schiff 2”.
Sexy Sail
Man your own yacht in Croatia
September 2nd until September 9th, 2017 to and from Trogir
Spending a week on a boat with thousands or more people is not everyone’s cup of tea. The alternative is the Sexy Sail: Instead of a large steamer, the organisers prefer a small fleet consisting of many yachts. For romantic travel are the smallest boats that have only room for couples, the larger ships offer space for up to ten men. Landlubbers don’t have to worry: A skipper is always on board, so sailing courses do not need to be attended before the trip. During the cruise the Sexy Sailors moor in a harbour every evening and meet for dinners and parties. You get in contact with other sailors here if not before. The next morning it’s off to the sea again. By the way, the diffculty of choosing the right boat can be saved if you already own a yacht. It is also possible to take part in the cruise through the Adriatic Sea with your own yacht.
mCruise
Through the Aegean with cupid’s arrow
September 1st until September 8th, from and to Athens
Mediterranean tours are in trend for the coming season. “The Mediterranean was clearly the most popular cruise region among our customers, which of course also has to do with the good accessibility and the relatively lower prices,” says mCruise organiser Olaf Alp. But the Mediterranean is not the same all over. While other operators concentrate primarily on its western part, the mCruise takes its 900 guests on the ship “Celestyal Nefeli” to the Aegean – with a special focus on the gay hotspot Mykonos. There are two days of stay there and couples can get married in a romantic chapel. Those who go on board as single might meet the man of their dreams during the five days of the cruise. To help this a mCruise employee plays cupid and allocates single travellers to the double cabins according to matching interests during “mCruise matchmaking”. And while some get to know each other better, others enjoy the entertainment on board, including Georgette Dee and Nina Queer. Even a resident DJ is booked: Chris Bekker, known among others from the Berlin Sunday party GMF, provides the hot beats. Let’s get this party started!
