Gay Guide Firenze - Toscana

Firenze - Toscana

Florence is one of the most important art centres world wide. Nowhere else in the world can one find such a collection of buildings, paintings and sculptures from the Gothic, Romanesque and especially Renaissance periods. Here one can find the cathedral and one of the most important painting collections in the world. The capital of the Tuscany has around 400,000 inhabitants and therefore a small but interesting gay scene. Due to a tolerant climate the first gay locations were established many years ago. The bars have an international flair and are mostly within walking distance of each other. The whole of the inner city is a traffic free zone, so it is highly recommended not to travel here by car, or if you do, to park the car outside the city. Gay run or gay-friendly accommodations (especially in Arezzo, Siena and Saturnia) offer tranquillity for those looking for it, but also serve as a great base as does Torre del Lago - the gay hotspot in summer, which is only one hour away by car. Florence is truly a must. Book your hotel early as accommodation is difficult to obtain even in the low season. Please note that the house numbers run in a parallel system: business addresses have mostly a red (occasionally blue) house number, with a "R" after the number. All other house numbers are black.
