Gay Guide USA
Sexual acts between persons of the same sex have been legal nationwide in the USA since 2003. After the numerous partial successes on the legal front over the last few years, the LGBT movement in the USA received the groundbreaking judgment on the 26th June 2015 in the dispute Obergefell vs. Hodges in which the Supreme Court made marriage possible between homosexual couples in all 50 federal states and territories of the United States. The judgment is not uncontroversial and was in a marginal 5-4 decision. As usual in particular ecclesiastical-conservative circles attacked the Court decision. Particularly the Republicans criticized that a court could appropriate such fundamental social decision. After the election of Donald Trump as the next US president it is unclear as to whether the full equal rights are in danger of being reversed or at least in part. Trump himself has expressed contradictory to this topic which he seems to see as a side issue. Nevertheless, Trump selected personnel in the administration how are politically from the far right, so that it is clearly possible that the rights for homosexuals are in danger of being infringed upon in the next 4 years. Attention: In many states in the USA it is necessary to show ID when entering a club or bar, even if everyone can see you are over 18 /21 years of age. This is a non-discriminatory policy as everyone is asked to show ID. If you have no ID card take your passport with you. A driver's licence is often not accepted. In our events calendar at the back of this guide you will find an extensive list of the Pride Events for the entire North American gay scene. From the 12th January, 2009 new entry rules for USA tourists apply. A visa for the entry in the USA must be applied for before the flight via Internet - and no longer during the flight on board. This form must be completed at the latest 72 hours before the flight. The ESTA form (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is available online at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov
