Gay Guide San Francisco
California has witnessed an intense battle over the equalization of gay marriage in recent years. Hardly introduced after many years of fighting for it, gay marriage next found itself prohibited again by a surprisingly successful referendum (Proposition 8). The Supreme Court's decision in June 2013 upheld the verdict of the Californian court so that gay marriage is once again legal in California. Hardly any other city is as closely associated with the gay movement in people's minds as San Francisco. The famous Castro district with its expansive, lively gay scene attracts many younger homosexuals again today. The greatest popularity is enjoyed by local annual gay events such as the Folsom Street Fair in September and San Francisco Pride in June, which number amongst the most important LGBT events in the USA.
